Stop Food Waste Day: How We’re Turning Scraps Into Sustainability at The Church Tasmania
♻️TODAY is Stop Food Waste Day: How We’re Turning Scraps Into Sustainability at The Church Tasmania
At The Church Tasmania, we’re passionate about feeding people — but not landfill.
That’s why we proudly support Stop Food Waste Day, a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of food waste and encouraging everyone to take action.
In the fast-paced world of catering, it’s easy to generate a lot of scraps. But here, we’ve built a little food-saving ecosystem that turns leftovers into nourishment — not just for people, but for animals, gardens, and our greater community.
🐾 Meet our “food security team”:
Lord Campbell and Lady Elizabeth — our majestic German Shepherds — are more than just beautiful dogs. They guard our property and enjoy safe, healthy kitchen scraps as part of their diet. In return, we get loyal love and low stress (seriously, they’re therapy on four legs).
🐔 Next stop: The chooks.
Our chickens get a banquet of food scraps and give back in kind — eggs, garden-fertilising manure, and a whole lot of happy clucking.
🌱 And the rest? Compost!
We’ve got three big compost bays that turn all our remaining food waste (plus garden clippings and chicken coop waste) into nutrient-rich compost. That feeds our flourishing gardens, which grow veggies, herbs, and fruit.
🥕 It’s a beautiful cycle — and one we’re proud of.
No, we can’t get to “zero waste” but every decision we make gets us closer to our goal of reducing waste, nurturing our land, and creating something positive with every leftover.
So on Stop Food Waste Day, we invite you to join us — whether it’s rethinking your scraps, feeding your chooks, freezing leftovers, or starting your own compost bin. Together, we can all make a difference, one plate at a time.
