Za’atar is a fragrant Middle Eastern spice blend made from a combination of dried thyme, oregano, marjoram, toasted sesame seeds, sumac, and salt. Some regional variations may also include cumin or coriander.
🌿 What Does Za’atar Taste Like?
Za’atar has a savory, earthy, tangy, and slightly nutty flavor profile, thanks to the citrusy notes of sumac and the rich nuttiness of sesame seeds. It adds a depth of flavor to dishes and is commonly used in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.
🍽️ How to Use Za’atar:
✔ Sprinkle over hummus, labneh, or Greek yogurt
✔ Mix with olive oil for a flavorful bread dip or marinade
✔ Season meats, roasted vegetables, or salads
